I just reread this, having first read it sometime in college, and liked it more than I'd remembered. The essays comprising the first section are pretty universally brilliant; those in the second a bit windy and forgettable; many of those in the third wonderful. I appreciate how candidly personal these essays are, freely acknowledging the encroachment of the writer such that her stories flow through her and she doesn't get in their way.
