Vay, güçlü bir kitap.
The plot twists in this book disappointed me. I was looking for more Persian Pickle Club.
This has to be the most painful book I've ever tried to read. For a brief time, my roommate and I were doing a little book club. This was our pick for that week/month, so there was incentive to at least finish it - but I couldn't. Perhaps about 100 pages in I just gave up. The endless and repetitively cynical humor, the futilitiy of the plot, and the whininess of the main character just became more than I was willing to tolerate for 400+ pages. I understand what Heller was attempting to do with this book, but did he have to make it so painful to read with such increasingly predictable biting wit? This book had/has so much potential, he just needed to take his "humor" down about 3 notches and get on with the story a little faster. Was he getting paid by the word?
This book was written by the wife of a family friend, and I just love it. It's a totally shameless guilty pleasure--the woman moves to London to create a safer life for her and her children.. meets a man, etc etc. But there's a magical, sweet undertone to the story, and its an excellent "I don't want to think very hard" read. The literary equivalent of Annie's Mac & Cheese--its still macaroni and cheese.. but its the best kind.
