ASAP. after reading this (which any thinking american should probably do...NOW), check out her writings from the past couple of years. SIGH. no matter the progress, some things never change.
Winner of the Pulizter Prize for fiction 2004. This was a great read - Interesting, thought provoking, not to be missed. A former slave buys his freedom - then his families' - His son eventually does well enough to start a plantation and own slaves himself.
