The story was entertaining and there were some really funny parts throughout which kept me laughing, however I felt that the relationships between characters developed far too quickly and often in a strange way so that it didnt feel quite right/particularly natural. The ending all happened a bit quick and despite the interesting storyline and the first person narration i didnt feel that connected to the characters. I can't say I would be in a hurry to read the next in the series although I probably will at some point in the future, if only to find out what happens next (I am terrible and having to find out the whole story even if I dont really like the books)! I think it is probably worth a read, but its not one of my favourites of this genre.
A very fascinating read and perfect for the inquiring mind that enjoys balancing spirituality and science. Although it took me a while to read, because it's a bit left-brained, I absolutely loved it.
I have read The Scarlet Letter several times, most recently for a class focused on sex in nineteenth century American literature. There are certainly aspects of this classic that appeal to me - scandal, symbolism, and implicit sexual adventure. I think what bothers me most about it is how a lot of the "surprises" are basically hitting the reader upside the head, such as Chillingworth's appearance in the crowd and some of the daughters' actions with respect to the reverend. I also got a little overloaded on the symbolism as a whole. One of those must-reads otherwise you can't even begin to be considered "well-read", but I'd do for a good skim.
I don't like this character as much as I like Lucas Davenport and this plot is very convoluted and it took me until the end to finally figure out what was going on. Not sure I will read any more Virgil Flowers books.
