The story surrounding a controversial female character in the Bible (partly) from her perspective. Really engaging. I was supposed to pass this one on to another sista after I finished it but I couldn't part with the book! (Sorry L!) I couldn't decide who should get it next and not be able to control who got it after that. I'll have to resolve that this week and maybe just spam all the runner's up with an email about it's goodness.
it was an interesting book, but too much mention of Jenny Craig.
As I've already stated in the AllEars group discussion, this is a perfect book for a long drive. While the soap opera quality is addictive mind candy, that structure gives less room for the lyricism that infuses Erdrich's best work ('The Last Report of the Miracles at No Horse,' for example). Still, it's a great story. A family, except for a baby, is murdered. Then, by traveling through time and different narrators' minds, Erdrich uses the Rashomon effect to peel away layers of preconceptions and resulting prejudice until the identity of the infant, and the killer, are revealed in a deliciously satisfying denouement.
Not just for horse lovers, this is a beautiful book full of thoughtful insights into the way we relate to ourselves as well as others, informed and inspired by the wisdom of horses.
