I enjoyed this author's writing style and her mixture of romance, history, and political turmoil. The main character's romantic life is supposed to parallel Chile's history, but it was too subtle for me to see.
I understand why this won the Newberry this year, but I didn't love it. I am just not a fan of ghosts, ghouls and the like. It was creepy and spooky and I know lots of people are going to love it.

Well, I give Emma more props than I did upon seeing the movie, but I felt oddly removed from the action and emotional turmoil she was experiencing.
