This is one of my favourites from when I was a kid. It's dated, to be sure, but that really only adds to its charm. The Macintyre family is living a dream life of wealth and leisure when their world is shaken by the death of husband/father, William. In order to stay on at the family's estate, they decide to open a riding school. Margo Macintyre, the Macintyre's oldest daughter, is eager to help her family, in large part because she is desperate to keep her horse, Scarlet Royal -- which would be impossible if they had to sell their home and move into the city. Along with her struggle to help her family keep their business running, Margo encounters difficulty at school with a new rival who is intent on stealing Margo's position in the horse world, her boyfriend, and even her favourite horse. Of course everything works out just as it's supposed to, with lots of ups and downs -- which makes it all the more fun!
This book is Amazing. It covers cakes geographically and culturally w/ recipes and family trees. Lots of good pictures too.
A favorite Maine painter of mine, this book is so fun to read. Andrew's life is full of mystery and magic and horror...and all that feeds his art. I love his search for the "realness" in people and things.
