I have read pretty widely on the Holocaust, and this is probably my favorite book on the subject. Elie Wiesel tells it like it was in the camps, but he adds some humanity. For the first time, when I read this book, I was able to see the individual suffering that occurred, rather than the suffering of the whole. The individual suffering is a lot more poignant for me. The symbolism and the descriptions alone make the book worth reading.
Amazing story about a young boy who is obsessed with oceanography and biology, who befriends a ragtag group of locals and discovers strange and fantastical creatures in a Pacific Northwest Bay. Funny, heartbreaking, suspensful, wistful, great story. Awesome writing.
