Everyone raves about this book, which made it a bit of a let down. It has a good plot and is well written, but made me uncomfortable at times in a way that made me want to close the book and never open it again. Not very plesant, even if well done.
I didn't expect much more than a plot-driven book, but I did expect a LITTLE more than that. While it's completely a page-turner, and in that sense a perfect vacation read, there's something thin and sketchy about the whole thing. I can't quite put my finger on it -- a sense of humor? A creeping dread? A richer sense of the characters? I'm not sure what, but there's something lacking. Or, you know, maybe it's not meant for full-grown men like me...
