I listened to this as an audio book on a road trip. It was perfect for that! Though the narrator had a weird voice... But still, the perfect type of book for that.

I know this book is a classic and I know it is very bad of me, the English Major, to not have finished this book. But I just got so bogged down in the symbolism and I couldn't recover. Maybe I will try to pick this up again sometime-- I know I probably should!

An interesting novel purporting to be about "Yeshua of Nazareth," with a very odd structure - told through "out-of-body" experiences by two 20th century Poles, and a long-lost diary by a key player in the drama, whom I shall not name. Sholem Asch was a well-known author in the early and mid-20th century. He wrote much in Yiddish, and received some flak from his co-religionists for writing this book and two other about early Christianity. However, the book emphasizes Jesus' Jewishness. It took me about four months to read it, but I would recommend it if you have any interest in the topic.

It has many hidden things or symbolism as in literature . What Mr.Johnson says is to think outside the box, the answer inst in front of you . Like the example of The Abandon church is a symbolism. Pony and Johnny abandon god, and when they need him (god ) they go to an abandon church, But why doesn't Hinton just send them to a building or a apartment? Why does it have to be a Abandon church? Symbolism.

I read this book on Cristy's recommendation. It is an interesting narrative (a little choppy) but descriptive and fun to read. Heartbreaking at the end. This is one of the only "boy-coming-of-age" stories I have ever liked.
