This book was fascinating from beginning to end. A pediatric doctor treats homeless kids from a mobile van, bringing the reader face to face with a lifestyle (both his and theirs) that 99% of us have never experienced. Didn't leave me with a "happily ever after" thought process at the end, as I now know more of these poor kids than I have before - but did leave me with a want to treasure my own little ones even more, and teach them to be even more aware of the needs of others, to find ways to help them. Well worth reading.

I absolutely loved Syrie James' other novel, Dracula My Love , so I wanted to give this a try based on that. After devouring this book, I can safely say that Ms. James is an author I will definitely be watching out for from now on. This book was hauntingly beautiful, and I was swept away as soon as it began. This novel includes only two characters, Michael and Nicole, and literally no one else. It takes place entirely in one house for four days. There isn't much action until the end of the book. And despite that? It was fantastic. The writing is so detailed, I felt like I was in that house with a blizzard going on around me. The scene was set so perfectly for me that all I had to do was curl up and enjoy this love story unfold. Yes, the "we fell in love in four days" is a bit ridiculous, but you somehow don't even notice that while reading. The historical references were also great for a nerd like me, and I looked forward to learning even more as the novel went on. The ending is absolutely bittersweet, but I thought it was perfect for how this story had to end.
