Not your average Dracula book. Very good! Do not prejudge this book as just another Dracula story.
I had to read this book for "summer reading" in school. For once, the history department picked a good book. (That's a rare accomplishment for them.) I loved this book, though there were times I had to put it down to get my temper back. I thought Burnham was fairly interesting, though at times frustrating. I love Olmsted. I did a project on him because his attitude simply fascinated me. Little did I know, he did so much more than the book even hints at (he was very much involved with the City Beautiful movement, and spoke (wrote, really) out against slavery in his youth. Holmes was superbly sinister. His claiming to be the devil and the coincidences (or incidents?) that followed were downright creepy. All along I wondered whether the stories would become connected. They never really did. However, that doesn't take away from the enchanting quality of this book. Not even a bit.
Thought it was a great book--got me thinking about a lot of things. Really got me thinking about what I need to do to prepare for a rainy day (whether from natural disaster, war, etc.). Lots of other great themes.
A fun, short graphic novel for the younger set. Although I did think that some of the jokes/references would probably go over the heads of younger readers. It does have some interesting devices at work, such as a little fact sheet for each character introduced into the storyline and a short infomercial in the middle of the story.
