What I like best about Mansfield Park is that it grows on you. When Jennie first bought it for me several years ago I wasn't crazy about it for all the usual reasons people don't like it. Unlike Elizabeth Bennett, Fanny seems mealy-mouthed and passive. She doesn't sparkle and the movie versions! Well the less said, the better. But Fanny has a lot to recommend her, if you reread the book faithfully once a year or so. You start to realize that she isn't passive, she's self-controlled as all of Austen's heroines are. She is loyal and generous and wise. Too bad she doesn't snag a Frederick Wentworth instead!
I learned that there IS a parallel magical 5th dimension after all! Great fantasy read...where do these guys get their imagination, anyway??!!
Very unusual character. Loved the true loving nature of Harper and her brother. They have been through so much they can only really trust eachother. Therefore, they make a really great team. Comparing to the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Harper has a strange gift and usually doesn't spend much time around men. But she is much more experienced in life. Would definately recommend to Charlaine Harris fans.
