Provides an in-depth look at the history of the prophet Joseph Smith and the formation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The author is LDS, but I did not feel that his religious affiliation biased his historical research and analysis of what occurred. He describes the events, offers varying perspectives, and then leaves it up to the reader to interpret. This is a lengthy book, but I found it fascinating, especially considering that I am LDS myself and have an invested interest in the history of the church. For someone who is LDS and not familiar with the history, it might prove hard to digest, and is probably not a good read for someone who does not have spiritual experiences to draw upon. Still, I think the author does leave the door upon for the idea that yes, this man could have been everything he claimed to be.
