I don't find Elizabeth Barrett Browning's poetry as interesting as her husband's but she is more of a conventional poet than he was and I really prefer poetry that reads like prose. Personal preference.
This along with A Wrinkle in Time are my top childhood favorites. I seem to enjoy the stories about the societies attempting to be pitch perfect, but tend to walk on the radical side to protect the innocence of the inhabitors. It is so incredibly creative and innovative for a young adult novel. A reason I may have enjoyed it so much as a kid was that I felt like Lois Lowry, though writing to a younger audience, didn't feel it necessary to dumb it down in any way, and though I didn't quite understand everything going on, I was enthralled instantly. I felt myself grow up and discover the good, bad, and ugly about the world with the main boy during his experiences with the giver.
