This review is based on an e-book galley received from NetGalley.com. This one gets a 6 out of 5 for me! It was that good! I couldn't put it down! I love Mullin's writing style and how he developed his characters. Alex is a believable teen. He doesn't turn into a completely selfless hero as we sometimes see in teen dystopias today. Alex is flawed just like a real teen. He has his strengths and his weaknesses which makes him so likable. I found myself cheering for Alex wanting him to keep going and find his family. I can't wait for the sequel. I was surprised by some of the vocab that was used for Alex's dialog. I found some of it a little far fetched, but it did not detract from the plot. I also wish that Mullin had gone a little more in depth about the science behind the eruption of the supervolcano, but perhaps that will be covered in the sequel. I will definitely recommend this to my teen book group. This is a must read for the fall!!
Another case of shelf appeal. I saw this on the shelf and thought it was so pretty I had to read it. So good job, cover people! As for the book, I liked it immensely. Super creepy with some excellent surprises. I'm very excited to read the sequel.
I was intrigued by the many things I heard about this novel before reading it, and I have to say it lived up its hype. The story loosely moves among a group of people somehow connected to the fictional record label, Sow's Ear. And the author employs a lot of different techniques to tell this story over 40 years. All in all, it's a great story and any book that can have a chapter made up of PowerPoint slides and still have it be entertaining is a winner in my book!
I thought that this book was pretty good. It had a lot of adventure in it which made it exciting. This book had a good ending and has a sequel which also makes it exciting. I think anyone who likes adventure and some science fiction should read this book because it would be perfect for them.
