This is one of those books I've always "meant" to read and have finally gotten to! A good read but it has to be read in context of being published after Huxley's Brave New World but before other similar classics like Orwell's 1984, Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, and even Atwoods A Handmaid's Tale. Still holds up as a parable about the dichotomy of the self versus the greater good (and who dictates what that means). An enjoyable, quick read. A shame that it is often classified as Sci-Fi which may turn some reader's off - it is really just an all ages parable. Would be good for juvenile and young adult fans of Lois Lowry's The Giver too.

This book is my personal record as far as speed goes - I finished it in one 90-minute bus ride.
