I'm giving this book a 9 rating. It's 3 books in one. Navy Woman, Navy Baby and Navy Husband. The first two are reissues from late 1980's and 90's. The last is a new book. I had already read Navy Brides awhile back. Which was 3 other books in one.
A truly brilliant work of short stories from one of the most gifted young female writers in America. Each story is beautifully written and evocative. And each is just as heartbreaking. Read it, but be prepared for an emotional tumult every 15 pages or so.
I was so disappointed b/c I am A HUGE fan of Bohjalian (I wish I knew how to say his name). However, I got halfway and said "Forget it." My friend told me the ending, and I am so glad I put it down. It would have been another day of my life I never would have gotten back.
Short stories whose men are all a mess. A big fascinating mess!
