Okay, it's a big investment of time, but it pays off. I was suprised at how, for lack of a better word, modern it was. Kafka must have read this before writing THE TRIAL.
This guy reads the bible - Old and New Testaments - and as he reads he tries to implement whatever law he reads about in his own life. There are things that totally change about his life for the good and then there are totally weird things he does (like stoning an adulterer in the park). Wonderful read! This guy is an obsessive compulsive nut...but very intelligent and entertaining. I laughed out loud reading this book and though it may seem like a thick book, it's a quick read because you'll love it! I kept thinking (as I read this book) "I'd love to meet this guy's wife...she's got to be quite a person to live with him."
