Just awful! I'm not sure if the book was trying to go for a remake of And Then There Were None, but it was a modernized version of the story. They're there for a houseparty, and now they can't leave. The host is a mystery. It had the classic, "Let's search the house to see if the killer is still here." even though the killer is one them, like the movie Clue. There was nothing original here. I couldn't even bear to finish it.
Story about the search for Vlad the Impaler. Historically fascinating. How much truth is blended into our legends? The book was great until the ending. 600 pages of a great story that just seems to run out of steam. I couldn't help but think, "this is it? I read all these pages for this?"
Not quite as good as I, Claudius, but still a fascinating peek at Rome of the time as imagined by Graves.
