** spoiler alert ** This book was strange, but I really liked it. I have not read any of his other books, and I don't think I will. I loved how every other chapter was about a differnt parisite. I learned so much from this book, and enjoyed the story line also. There is something so mysterious about the main character, that you can't help but want to read more. I read this book in two sittings, and then re-read it resently. It is worth the time you spend reading it, if you are into the kind of thing this book is about.
I don't think I would recommend this book to the youngsters for which it was written. George spends the day making a concoction of every conceivable substance in his home, intending to feed it to his grandmother and make her explode. The consequences are not as disastrous as they would be if one performed this stunt in real life, and are in fact rather, well, marvelous. My fear would be that kids would definitely try this at home, resulting in deceased pets, local wildlife, and possibly grandmothers.
I keep trying to get into this series, as I liked the Railroad series, but so far...it just hasn't clicked for me yet...
