This is a great read for those who appreciate the pomp and grandeur of Europe during the time of the French revolution. It involves courage, chivalry, and a swashbuckling hero. In addition, it was written by a baroness.
The last novel she wrote. Persuasion is the best story she wrote; characters, story and satire are well-developed.
I loved this book when I read it in high school. Re-reading it a couple of years ago was enlightening - I found II hadn't understood a lot of the (blatant) undertones of feminism. But I still enjoyed it thoroughly. A dark fairytale.
You might accept George a little more after reading this book..Im half way thru and cant seem to put it down
A good story line and mostly interesting characters, but the main character is much too shallow. This ending is very predictable. This novel lacks depth.
Sophie's World is a twofold read. It is an entertaining, light hearted (if sometimes a little heady) story of a teenage girl learning that there is more to the world than she had previously suspected. At the same time, it is also a concise history of the players and theories of Western philosophy from the Presocratics all the way up through the Existentilists. A great summer read, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something lighter and fun, but without the guilt of reading some fluff novel.
