Clara is part angel, her mother is half, and her father is human. Her mother only recently told her because she is at the age she will start having visions. Every angel has a purpose, and the visions will show her what that purpose is. Along with the visions she will start to develop her powers, whatever those will be. Clara's vision shows her saving a boy from a forest fire. As the visions become more frequent, they increase in detail. These details lead her family to a different city, state, school, life. Her mom is very secretive about how much she tells Clara, insisting she must find out for herself. As if uprooting in the middle of High School isn't enough, she knows that she is on her own. ****************************************spoilers********************************************* For my terrible memory... Christian is the boy she must save, handsome, popular, and attached to Kay. Wendy soon becomes a close friend, and invites Clara to join the invisibles. Not popular, but not unpopular, just invisible. Through a school project she starts hanging out with Angela. Through a series of small tests Angela learns of Clara's angel side, and reveals she is part angel as well. Everyone- Christian, Angela, & Wendy head off for their summer leaving Clara to fend for herself. Wendy's brother Tucker shows up to take her out of the house for her birthday. They end up spending almost every day together, and eventually fall in love. Clara's mom is upset because she thinks Tucker will distract her away from her purpose, and they break up. She learns about the Black Wings, fallen angels, from Angela but when she comes across one she is overwhelmed with their grief. The day of her purpose she runs into the same Black Wing and her mom has to come save her. Her mother almost dies, but through Glory they are able to hold him off. Then she must race to beat the fire and save Christian like all of her visions have shown. Wendy calls and says that Tucker is missing and there are two different fires. Going against everything she knows is right, she saves Tucker instead of Christian, only to find out that he didn't need saving after all. She finds him after the fire has already crossed the place they were supposed to meet, and realizes he is an angel blood as well. The story ends with them both confused, neither know what diverging from their path will entail.
Awesome book. Makes me wish I understood more about Russian history and politics to make all the connections. Worth a read even if you don't get the subtexts.
a wonderful conclusion to the series, the possiblities of continuing,I would hope to NOT see another though, it would be a let down to where the imagination can take you.
