I really enjoyed this book. I liked the progress of the main character (Beck) as he figures out about his family. This book also has my all-time-favorite scene where lettuce attacks people; FINALLY lettuce gets the starting role in a book that it deserves.
I preferred Harry Potter when it wasn't such a worldwide phenomenon... It appealed to me because it reminded me of all those old Enid Blyton stories about boarding schools. :)
I loved the mystery about a mysterious author! I loved that the character/author tells us that she must sit down while she reads so that she doesn't fall and hurt herself. What an amazing opportunity to write a biography about such a secretive woman who has ghosts in her past. Juicy!
A first novel with a witty and appealing heroine. The construction follows an imaginary syllabus of a literature course. Fans of Tartt's Secret History will enjoy.
