A sweet, quick read - a little bit of magic and romance.
I'm not a huge Dave Eggers fan, but I read this book on a strong recommendation he gave on the Design Matters podcast. He said there's not a word out of place, and marveled at the fact that Jones wrote it in three months after crafting it in his head for over 10 years. My feeling after reading it is that while Jones has an interesting voice, the amount of storylines and characters dilute it. It's an interesting read from a 'history of American slavery' perspective, which is surely how it won the Pulitzer, but there wasn't anything in this that make me hungry to come back and read it night after night.
Depressing depressing book.
I loved loved loved this book. But the ending? It killed me. I'd be interested to see what other people thought of it.
Can't help but laugh out loud at Stephanie Plum!
