LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! Tackles the ideas of different religion and how they interact. Inaddition it is a great story about survival.
I didn't finish. Yalom's writing is excellent, and he synthesizes existential philosophy very effectively, drawing from literary fiction and nonfiction. There is much to be gleaned here, but I need to digest the section on death for awhile before I'm ready to move on. I read the section on death anxiety while on a beach vacation. Some people thought that was pretty funny.
Not exactly my favorite classical read. Pyle probably needed to borrow someone's thesaurus because he uses several words nauseatingly frequently (if I read the words lusty or stout again in my life it will be too soon). The female characters were almost non-existent (and, if they did exist they were uni-dimentional and peripheral); even the famed Maid Marion had a lesser role than Little John's bo staff. I won't comment on some of the other oblique overtones (let's just say I don't plan to read that book again).
I like the addition of Brinkley.
