I loved it! I loved the characters and the story. I know people are comparing it to Hunger Games constantly but they really aren't that similar. They both can get pretty violent, this book maybe a little more violent, but I think after that fact the similarity ends. Can't wait for the next one!

One of my favorite books...actually just finished reading it for the second time. I think it's one of Didion's best works, along with Slouching Towards Bethlehem . The book deals with the idea of California as promised land, as do most of her other books, and also with the failure of that concept. California as the fallen Eden, and the melancholy way she explores love, marriage, and fidelity as characters struggle to find themselves or identify themselves.

I hate it when I get a book in the middle of a series. This is a second book of three, now I have to get the first and third ones, maybe. This is a historical romance with a tried and true plot, how many times do we have to read story? The story took some time to develop and get going and didn't garner much empathy with the characters until late in the story. Not a bad read but not the best one either. The teaser for the third book makes it sound like a better story. Hope so!

Lots of space for people who have moved/are moving and even for those who can only imagine what it's like, to relate. Paints a pleasant image in your head and good storyline which keeps you at bay. It wasn't too good, but it wasn't bad. Not at all. In fact, I think it might just have been better if it was done more in as a single book than a series, but oh well. Didn't really compel me enough to go buy the next book. Might look around for it in the local library though!
