This was a wee-bit too philosophical for me.
I'm extremely surprised by how much I enjoyed this anthology! I picked it up intending to just read the stories by authors I know I like—Kelley Armstrong, Ilona Andrews, Carrie Vaughn, Holly Lisle, Jeaniene Frost, Maria V. Snyder. I had never heard of some of the other authors. A few names I remembered seeing in other anthologies and not enjoying their work. I did, however, deliberately put myself in a tolerant mindset: this is a book of romance stories. It wouldn't be fair to judge them as anything else. That worked rather better than it has in the past. I still got a little annoyed at having so much of each story dedicated to couples (and all het/mono couples, at that!) rather than some intriguing world ideas, but managed to stay on track. In the end, I only skipped one story—I just don't like the Weather Wardens stuff at all. I found a couple of others substandard, but all in all, Telep chose very well. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance (maybe even those who usually stick to just romance), and most urban fantasy fans.
Nothing like the TV show, and that's a good thing. I read this whole series with my friend, and it was our guilty pleasure. That TV show is just out for cheap thrills.

DIe Geschichte von Manon, einem Mädchen aus der Provinz, die einen einfachen, aber großen Traum hat. Ein Star zu sein. Sie kommt nach Paris, um ihren Traum zu erfüllen und trifft auf den gelangweilten Milliardär Derek, der eine kleine Sinnkrise durchmacht und in Manon das perfekte "Projekt" entdeckt. Er will ein Leben zerstören. Ein Jahr später ist Manon ein Superstar, gefragtes Model, ihre Fotos auf Werbetägern in jeder Stadt, in die sie kommt, die Menschen reissen sich um sie. Aber irgendwas scheint nicht zu stimmen, warum erkennt sie der Top-Regisseur nicht mehr, mit dem sie gerade zusammen gearbeitet hatte? Und George Clooney benimmt sich auch so eigenartig. Und Kurt Cobaine hat seinen Tod nur vorgetäuscht? Und warum erkennt sie dieser Türsteher nicht? Sie, den Superstar! Manon befindet sich in einer Welt aus Drogen und Oberflächlichkeiten, ihre Beziehung zu Derek ist auch eher enttäuschend. Eines Tages wacht Manon benommen auf und alles scheint nur ein Traum gewesen zu sein, oder doch nicht? Mir hat das Buch sehr gut gefallen, bis auf das Ende, das Ende nach dem Ende. DIe Welt des schönen Scheins und die Macht des Geldes werden extrem auf die Spitze getrieben und heraus kommt eine Geschichte, die den Leser mit der Frage zurücklässt, ob nicht vieles in der "Glitzerwelt" und im normalen Leben nur "bubblegum" ist, eine Blase, die ganz schnell platzen kann. Die Sprache ist direkt und ehrlich, was gut zur Geschichte passt, vielleicht aber nicht jerdermanns Sache ist. Auch wenn ich mit dem Ende so meine Schwierigkeiten habe (ich will's natürlich nicht verraten!), hat mich das Buch gut underhalten. Die Charaktere sind dunkel und nicht leicht zu mögen, und trotzdem gibt es immer wieder Momente, in denen man ihre Verletzbarkeit erkennt. Man fiebert mit und fragt sich, was genau Derek vorhat.

First off, I had never heard of "the diamond ring effect" and actually found myself stopping to research it in the middle of reading the story. FYI, wiki has a very pretty picture. Ok, so, about the story now. Roy is lonely, depressed and stuck at home caring for his ill mother. The relationship with his father is practically non-existant and he longs for a guy he doesn't think even knows he exists. Then appear some lost aliens that need his help and in return they actually help him. This is a short novella and I just felt more story needed to be told. Particularly the relationship between Roy and his father and Roy and his love interest.
