I hated this book. I thought it would get better, and it never did.
This was a fun mystery about a group of neighbors who all must play "The Westing Game" in order to win Sam Westing's 200 million dollar inheritance. All of the would be heirs wonder why they are brought together, but everyone is not who they seem. A track star, a un-loved little girl, and angry restaurant owner, a lonely secratary, a cleaning lady, a old delivery boy, a doctor, and Chinese woman, a girl with dreams, a seamstress, an interior decorator and a handicapped boy. In the end, they all learn something about life and somehow they all end up better because of Sam Westing's game.
Great ending to the series. I will have to catch up on her other books.
A fun and engaging read but the women (er, chicks) were quite negatively stereotyped in terms of their dependence and their painfully pathetic tendencies. These few - though central - contrived characters made it a little hard for me to swallow, on the whole. There is, however, one strong and multi-dimensioned woman in the story but I found her to be unlikable and, incidentally, whenever I read her lines I could always hear a heavy smoker's voice, which admittedly is my fault but still, you see, hard to bear.
